In the fight for equal rights, inclusion and respect for diversity, one of the most vulnerable and discriminated groups is the LGTBI community.  To guarantee their rights, the law requires the implementation, starting this March, of a protocol to ensure that all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can function in the workplace without fear of being discriminated against or excluded. This protocol consists of creating clear policies and procedures that promote equal opportunities and respect for diversity in the workplace.

Measures included in the protocol:
  • Complaint channels
These protocols must include measures to prevent and address situations of discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation or gender identity, which involves the implementation of confidential reporting channels and staff training on diversity and LGBTI awareness issues.
  • Anti-discrimination clauses and diversity
In addition, equal treatment policies are established for hiring, promotion, and working conditions, avoiding discrimination. The inclusion of anti-discrimination clauses in collective agreements can be encouraged, and diversity in the composition of work teams can be promoted.
  • Corporate culture
Another fundamental aspect of these protocols is the guarantee of a safe and respectful work environment where all people can express their gender identity and sexual orientation freely and without fear of reprisals. This involves using inclusive language, adapting physical spaces, and raising co-workers’ awareness.
  • Benefit for companies
The implementation of an integration and non-discrimination protocol for the LGTBI community benefits people belonging to this group and contributes to the well-being and productivity of the entire organization. An inclusive and diverse work environment promotes creativity, teamwork, and talent retention, thereby improving business results.

At ETL ILIA, we have promoted the benefits of implementing this protocol from the beginning; now, the law has made it mandatory for companies with more than 50 employees.

This attempts to take another step in constructing a more just and egalitarian society. These measures protect the rights of LGTBI people in the workplace and promote diversity, respect, and peaceful coexistence in the work environment.
